Mountains of Valais

Through fog, rain, snow and even wind gusts of up to 120 km/h I am happy to have completed this project. Mountain of Valais is by far my most time consuming venture, which at points pushed me to my utter most limits. With 40kg of kit on my back it was not always easy to arrive to my chosen locations. After 15 days of filming in between August and November this year, and as a further four weeks of postproduction the project is finally finished.

Such a Nice Crew

Why do we go to the mountains? There are reasons that reach beyond the climb, past the descent, and are far more important than the summit. Regardless of the grade, the elevation, or the name of any peak, we go to the mountains seeking a feeling; and no matter where or who we are, the feeling is the same. Whether you’re on the highest mountain in the world or at your local hill back home – we go for The Process. Film By:   Jesse Hoffman

Trailer: Sean Pettit’s Keep Your Tips Up

"Keep Your Tips Up" is a highly engaging, fun and honest depiction of Sean’s life as a skier at home and around the world. Filming for this Red Bull TV original series started last winter and took place in locations including Hokkaido, Japan; Courmayeur, Italy; Silverton, Colorado; Valdez, Alaska; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Whistler, BC. The show will air every two weeks from October through January and will be broadcast on Red Bull TV.

Trailer: After The Sky Falls

"After The Sky Falls" captures the skiing of Eric Pollard, Chris Benchetler and Pep Fujas. Two years in the making, the film is not an epic portrayal of the sport, but instead is an attempt to relate to and inspire everyday skiers. This motion picture is not a dramatic narrative piece, it’s not a energy drink commercial, it’s not meant to make the skiers in the film into heros, it is simply a film that documents the Nimbus crew’s unique approach to skiing, and their focus on fun and creativity.

Season in Svalbard

If you see a jump in Svalbard, its 99 percent chance that its mine. While there is some crazy big mountain skiing thats beeing done here these days, not alot of people go out buliding jumps. Alot of the time i am out there on my own. Me, my rifle and my board. That limits things alot for sure, but in the end i am only out there to have fun. The big reward of jumping around in a place like Svalbard is: no tracks, no people, 3000 polar bears and endless wilderness.

Trailer: Swatch Degrees North

In March, Xavier de le Rue and Samuel Anthamatten travelled to Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, situated halfway between continental Norway and the North Pole to film the next mission, 'Degrees North’. The idea was for Xavier and Samuel to use paramotors to access and ride incredible lines, never before ridden in the remote locations of the Atomfjiella region in Svalbard.
Second part of the movie will be filmed this winter and will see Ralph Backstrom joining the crew, to discover a new zone in Alaska.
Full movie coming out fall 2015

Iceland: Odyssey 4K

Shot over two weeks from late June through early July in Iceland, finding the best spots to experience these conditions was not easy. We had to navigate Iceland's fickle weather. The southern half of the island was storming most of the time. Knowledge of the island's various micro climates and scenic locations were important in figuring out where to go for any given night. So was staying mobile and keeping all options open. Each day was a new and unexpected adventure.

Shot in 6 weeks, travelling over 7500km from Santiago to Punta Arenas we captured roughly 100.000 still frames that combine into this timelapse video.

For passionate skiers around the globe, the time of year can never undermine the enthusiasm for their next great day on snow. Regardless of weather, conditions, or the effort required to get there, “a bad day of skiing still beats a good day at work.” As summer eases into fall and fall eventually fades to winter, dreams of skiing occupy our minds and we focus all of our energy on returning to the mountains.

White Out

A short film about winter. This film is composed of approximately 2,250 watercolor paintings on paper. It is a kind of winter companion to my film “L’Eau Life,” although here the water is frozen and therefore much easier to paint — because painting snow mostly means leaving the paper white.  The music is by Shay Lynch, and wonderfully captures the endless cascade of the montage while giving the film a kind of emotional elegance in spite of its vaudevillian pratfalls.
